Frequently Asked Questions

  • Fill out the form below and I will be in touch to schedule a free consultation call! This meet-and-greet style call will help both of us know if we’re a good fit for each other

  • Amazing question! Birth doulas offer what I like to call a slice of the birth PIE! We are trained to provide continuous Physical, Information, and Emotional support to moms and their family before, during and after birth. This can include hands-on comfort techniques during labor, childbirth education and birth prep at prenatal meetings, making space for you to process your feelings and expectations about birth, and advocating for your preferences and dignity in the birth room. All of the above can and should be a benefit for not just the mom, but for the partner as well! I am here to support moms and their partners as they both transition into parenthood.

  • Doula work is the oldest job in the world! Current doula work is not a new fad or trend, but a response to the need for families to have the knowledge and support they deserve! Some benefits of having a doula include…

    • The partner no longer is the sole provider of support for mom

    • Lowered risk of cesarean birth

    • Decreased use of pain medications during labor

    • Shorter labor time on average

    • Decreased risk of the baby having low Apgar scores at five minutes

    • Increased likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth

    • Increased satisfaction with the birth experience

See this article for more info and primary sources!

  • This is a common misconception, but no! Doulas and midwives are very different. Doulas hold non-clinical support roles in birth, while midwives are clinical professionals. Doulas do NOT…

    • Do clinical services such as cervical exams, fetal heart monitoring, or catching the baby

    • Give medical advice or make diagnoses

    • Make decisions for you medical or otherwise

    • Give their own opinion/preference about a decision you’re making

    • Take over the role of the partner

  • I live in Decatur, GA and serve a 1.5 hour radius from there. If you re unsure if your birth location fits within that, please reach out!

  • Usually, yes, depending on how far along you are when you hire me. A 50% retainer fee is required upon signing a contract and the rest can be split up into two or three payments. Full payment is due at 36 weeks so that I can go on call for your birth. If you’re interested in a payment plan, add that to the “additional info” section of the form below!

  • In the rare scenario where I’m unavailable during your birth I have a network of trusted backup doulas that can provide you support. We can go over these details during prenatals!

  • Yes! Pain coping strategies for labor are just one piece of doula support. Informational and emotional support are just as important. No matter what you decide to do for your birth, I hope to leave you feeling prepared and cared for!

  • No! I work with any type of family or individual. My faith is very important to me, so I value being upfront about that in case that’s not what you want in your doula! Everyone deserves doula care, but every doula is not right for every person.
